Customer, Canada
A tugboat with twin prop shafts fitted with 5 SNL bearings on each shaft was in trouble, as one of the bearings had failed and there was no time to get the boat into dry dock and carry out the repair in time to meet the work schedule.
Bowman provided their new patented spherical split roller bearing which can be fitted to standard SAF and SN pedestals without having to take the boat into dry dock and strip down the whole prop shaft assembly. The task of fitting the new bearing was completed within 3 hours by removing the pedestal top and cutting away the old bearing assembly. The lower half of the pedestal was left in-situ whilst the Bowman bearing assembly was fitted, without affecting the shaft alignment. The saving in down time saved thousands of Pounds and facilitated the tug continuing its work with minimal disruption.
